FAQ
These FAQs are designed to provide a better understanding of the Farmstruck auction process.1. Where do these vehicles come from?
They are all directly imported from Japan.
2. Who buys these vehicles for you?
We do our own buying in Japan, so we purchase the vehicles we want.
3. Are the kilometers accurate?
We get to sight all the vehicles we buy. From what we understand there is no market for these vehicles out of Japan so there is no need for winding.
4. What are these vehicles used for in Japan?
Mainly used as an On Road Vehicle. Their main use is for moving goods due to the narrow access ways near rice paddies, shopping centres etc.
5. Are parts available for these vehicles?
Yes. We import parts and endeavour to have parts available on call. Some parts can only be supplied new. We hold limited stock but can import more.
6. What do you do to these vehicles once they arrive in NZ?
These vehicles are second hand vehicles so depending on condition, we have them mechanically serviced, paneled and painted, fitted with ATV wheels and tyres. Flares, undersealed belly plate and lifted.
7. What kind of lead time is required for preparing these vehicles?
We provide a 2 to 3 week leadtime to enable us to have a vehicle ready once confirmation is received.
8. How do I find a vehicle that is suitable for me and my farm?
We have agents who can provide demonstrations on your farm. They will be able to talk to you and view what type of work you want your ATV truck to do. Then we can advise what models should suit your farm.
9. Do any warranties come with these vehicles?
Yes, we provide a 3 month warranty.
10. Do you buy from wrecking yards?
Very few as the condition is usually poor. We prefer to buy from auctions as the quality and selection are higher.
11. I am over six feet tall, is there a model I can fit into?
The jumbo model fits all people up to six feet five.
12. Do you have any diesel models?
No.
13. Can I have a onroaded truck?
Yes. No problem. This would undergo normal registration to make it road worthy.
14. Can I have my truck registered for road use but still have the atv wheels fitted for offroading?
Yes, but not on a normal registration. The vehicle will still need to go through its first compliance. Then you must decide if you want the truck to be fitted with all the offroading gear. You can register the vehicle on EB plates which restrict you under the conditions of the EB registration.
15. How does the whole process of auction and importing work?
Auctions in Japan are VERY different to auctions in New Zealand.
To join an auction in Japan you must be a member.
1. This is a difficult, time comsuming and costly exercise.
2. Foreign visitors cannot just walk up and join in.
3. You must be a local business.
4. You are carefully vetted financially, your personal and business reputation is looked into indepth.
5. Another member must introduce you.
6. the process can take 2 months.
7. There is also some cost in the form of a joining fee and a deposit.
Overview of the standard auction process:
1. Auctions run on a weekly basis (with the exception of two holidays per year).
2. They start between 9 and 10am.
3. They usually finish between 4 and 8pm. Some of the larger ones finish after midnight.
4. They complete uploading of vehicle information to their website by 8pm the evening before the auction.
5. The vehicle information is normally includes 2 photos, an auction sheet, and the start price.
6. The start price gives very little idea of the selling price.
7. Vehicles are displayed in their respective numbered sequence.
8. They cannot be test driven.
9. Auction staff fill out detailed auction sheets?
10. The bidding process is controlled by computer.
11. Members bid using a button (a separate button for each lane).
12. Each bid is normally 3,000 yen (about $50).
13. A vehicle is on offer for an average of often less then 10 seconds.
14. The smaller auctions sell 2 vehicles at a time while the larger ones have 6 lanes selling.
15. While the auctions lanes vary in vehicle type, it is surprising how many times members need to bid on more than one vehicle simultaneously. It is therefore vital that the bidder has an exact maximum bid (there is no time to think or second guess).
16. If a mistake is made requiring cancellation the auction charges a minimum penalty of 70,000 yen ($1,000).
18. The auction sends a statement at the end of trading showing the bid price, tax, and auction fee iteming the cost related to each vehicle.
19. A copy of this will be sent to our customers available to each buyer.
